Smiling woman looking at veneer options

Do teeth that are chipped, cracked, stained, or uneven have you hiding your smile?

Our dentists at Smile Designer DDS use porcelain veneers to treat cosmetic flaws affecting the front teeth. The results can be dramatic.

Learn how our Arlington, VA, dental practice can use veneers to revitalize your smile.

What Are Veneers?

A dental veneer is an ultra-thin shell of tooth-colored porcelain that is affixed to the front surface of a tooth. The dental veneer hides cosmetic imperfections, making the tooth appear pristine and free from visible flaws.

Porcelain veneers are typically used to treat your front teeth. Just a few well-placed dental veneers can give you a brand-new smile. Veneers are one of the most versatile cosmetic dentistry treatments available today.

What Can Veneers Treat?

  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Stains
  • Tooth gaps
  • Uneven teeth
  • Smile asymmetry

What Are Veneers Made Of?

Our veneers are made of durable, stain-resistant porcelain. Unlike composite veneers, this dental porcelain matches the color and translucence of natural teeth. The porcelain material is also much longer-lasting.

When possible, our Arlington dental office uses IPS e.max® for its veneers. This type of material is especially durable, and closely matches the look of natural tooth enamel.

Always prompt with and my appointments are quick with very little waiting in the chair for the next thing to happen, which I have always appreciated. They screen you (no-touch thermometer and oxygen monitor) when you come in and wear masks and shields.

The Dental Veneer Procedure What Patients Can Expect

We use IPS e.max and other advanced porcelain materials for long-lasting results that look just like natural teeth

Day of Procedure

Initial Consultation

During your initial consultation at our Arlington office, we will examine your smile and review your cosmetic goals. We can answer any questions you may have about veneers, and discuss costs and potential alternatives.

Prepping and Impressions

If porcelain veneers are right for you, we can prep your teeth for treatment. We will remove less than 1 mm of enamel from the tooth surface. This process is not painful. With the tooth enamel removed, we can then take an impression of the prepped tooth.

Temporary Veneers

It will take time for the dental lab technicians to create your custom veneers. In the meantime, we will create and place a set of temporary veneers. We ask that you follow our instructions for temporary veneer care to ensure they are not dislodged.

Fabricating the Veneers

Each wafer-thin veneer is tailored to your tooth. The lab technicians strive to make each custom-made veneer as natural-looking as possible.

Placing the Finished Veneers

When we have received the completed veneers, we will check them for proper fit and make any final adjustments as needed. Once the porcelain veneers are adhered in place, you'll walk out of our office with a new smile

How Long Does It Take? Veneers Treatment Time

It typically takes about two weeks to complete the porcelain veneers process. This gives the lab time to fabricate the custom shells. However, we can complete the process faster in some cases, sometimes as soon as overnight. We can discuss treatment timelines in more detail during your consultation at our Arlington, VA, practice.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

On average, porcelain veneers last approximately 10 years with proper care. You can extend the life of your veneers if you are especially good about oral hygiene and checkups.
