Why Choose an Orthodontist

Specialized Education

In addition to completing four years of general dentistry training, an orthodontist must undergo training specific to the field of orthodontics.

Advanced Treatment

Orthodontists are dentists who specialize in tooth and jaw alignment, so they can plan and oversee leading-edge orthodontic treatments even if you have severe malocclusion.

Exemplary Results

Their advanced training and understanding of how to align the teeth and jaws can result in optimal results when you choose an orthodontist like Dr. Ahn for your treatment.

"Dr. Ahn had my best interests at heart." 5-Star Reviews From Our Patients

I did my orthodontics treatment here as well as a few cleanings and extractions, and I only have good things to say about this practice. The practitioners and staff are all friendly and professional. Throughout the entirety of my treatment, I felt Dr. Ahn had my best interests at heart. She was patient and listened to my needs and did not rush the ortho treatment. The office is clean, wait times are not very long, and I have never had an issue with billing. Would definitely recommend!

Dr. Ahn, and her team are extremely professional and provide a caring environment. I have been going to this office for over 3 years and have so deeply appreciated the treatment I have received all through out the Covid pandemic, which included a pretty intense oral surgery as part of my impacted canine treatment. When I was choosing providers I met with a number of orthodontist, and Dr. Ahn was the only one to take the time to listen to me, and to provide thoughtful advice and suggested plan ahead. Other orthodontists very not as attentive and thoughtful, and did not take the time to hear me out.

What Can Orthodontics Treat?

Smiling woman with braces

Orthodontics can help correct a variety of dental concerns, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Overcrowding
  • Misaligned bite
  • Teeth grinding
  • Rotated teeth

If you or your child have any of these dental concerns, our orthodontist can help determine a treatment plan.

The Orthodontic Treatment Timeline

Your orthodontic treatment can take anywhere from a few months to a few years to complete, depending on the severity of your misalignment and your treatment option. Our orthodontist will examine your teeth and give you an estimate of your timeline prior to your treatment. Your treatment will involve several steps:
We have been named Top Dentists by Northern Virginia Magazine on multiple occasions and won the Patient’s Choice award as Mom-Approved Doctors from Washington Parent Magazine.
We have been named Top Dentists by Northern Virginia Magazine on multiple occasions and won the Patient’s Choice award as Mom-Approved Doctors from Washington Parent Magazine.

Planning Your Treatment

Your orthodontist will take digital X-rays of your bite in our Arlington office. These images will help our orthodontist plan out the best route to guide each tooth to its ideal alignment.

Begin Treatment

Depending on your treatment, your orthodontist will either place your braces or provide you with your first set of Invisalign aligner trays.

Attend Checkups

With the help of your orthodontist, your teeth will slowly come into alignment; however, you will have to attend regular checkups with our orthodontist so she can tighten your braces or provide you with new aligner trays, as well as ensure your treatment is working as it should without problems.

Maintaining Your Results

Following orthodontic treatment, a retainer will be necessary to hold your teeth in their new position while the bone heals around them. You may have to wear your retainer for several hours each day and every night indefinitely.

What Sets Smile Designer Apart?

An Award-Winning Practice

Our team has been honored to earn a number of accolades over the years. We have been named Top Dentists by Northern Virginia Magazine on multiple occasions and won the Patient’s Choice award as Mom-Approved Doctors from Washington Parent Magazine.

With a Welcoming Office

We think a big part of creating a top-class experience is the quality of our office itself, as well as the people who work there. Our Arlington, VA, dental office is completely modernized, with none of the cold, sterile feel you’ll find at other practices. You can enjoy amenities like free Wi-Fi, Bose® noise-canceling headphones, and flat-screen TVs in every treatment suite when you visit us.

Offering Comprehensive Care

Many practices offer only dentistry or only orthodontics, but Smile Designer does both. You and your family can get all the care you could possibly need for healthy smiles in one convenient location. We also stand apart in that we have a trained orthodontist on staff, which most dentistry-focused practices that also offer orthodontic care do not. This means that your braces or Invisalign treatment will be overseen by a doctor specifically trained to provide these services.

And Extended Hours

We understand how hard it can be to fit visits to the dentist or orthodontist into a busy schedule. Every Friday, we open our doors right at 7:00am to make appointments before school or work more convenient. On Tuesdays, we stay open until 6:00pm so you have plenty of time to visit after work, sports, or club activities. Need a little extra flexibility for your appointment? Just let us know. We’ll be happy to accommodate you.

Ready to Get Started?  We Can't Wait to Work With You

Your smile is an important feature. If you feel less than confident in yours, we can help you change that through personalized orthodontic care. Teens and adults alike can enjoy boosted self-esteem and greatly improved oral health after refining their smiles.

Dr. Ahn can perform a thorough examination and recommend a treatment option best suited to your needs and lifestyle during a consultation at our Arlington, VA, office. Request yours by contacting us online or calling:

Am I Too Old for Orthodontics?

Smiling man with braces

Not at all! Though children can receive orthodontics starting around the age of 12 when teeth have fully erupted, many adults can benefit from treatment, too. Adults with imperfect smiles often report that they feel uncomfortable in social situations like giving presentations at work and going on dates. Orthodontics can help children and adults alike achieve straighter and healthier smiles that can boost their confidence and improve their oral health. If you're an adult who's uncomfortable with the idea of wearing braces, we encourage you to ask our orthodontist about Invisalign.

A Cosmetic Treatment Can Be the Perfect Finishing Touch

If you're interested in pursuing orthodontics for the cosmetic benefits, you might also be interested in complimentary cosmetic services that can further boost your results. Many of our Arlington patients continue with treatments like aesthetic gum contouring or professional teeth whitening after they finish their orthodontic care.

Paying for Treatment

Many insurance plans contribute to the cost of orthodontics such as braces and Invisalign as they can prevent many dental concerns. Our friendly staff will help patients maximize their benefits. Our Arlington office also offers financing options through CareCredit® to help patients pay for any out-of-pocket costs, so treatment can easily fit into a patient's budget.

Absolutely love this studio and everyone who works here! The office is modern, the service is great, and the dentists are all very friendly and well informed. I’ve had lots of different services here and all were completed well. Also, the front desk receptionist is so kind and helpful. I’m used to ride receptionists at other offices so that was definitely a welcome change.

I’ve been going here for years, it’s a great office, and I trust them. I asked the doctor a question the other day, and received an email later with research on that question. Much appreciated.
